The estate, six hectares of vineyards and olive groves, purchased and renovated by Mrs. Franca Maculan, is located in the heart of the “Valpolicella Classica” on the slopes of the Conca d’Oro, in the
locality La Palà. The place name already existed in some of the early nineteenth century cadastral maps, in the local dialect of the time indicating the common practice of the growers to sustain the
vines they were planting with a shovelful of earth: the shovel (la Palà).
After the untimely death of Franca, many months passed by before the care of the vineyard could pass from the hands of Franca to those of Raffaella Veroli and David Gaeta. They meditated on whether to plant new vines or preserve the originals. The idea of keeping them won. Over all, won the desire to keep alive and bring back that magical land. Today, Raffaella, and Davide, have created the Societa’ Agricola Eleva, which manages the foundation and its wines.
At the time of planting the vineyards Mrs. Maculan was very clear on her goal: the outstanding quality of its wine.
The Azienda Agricola Eleva since the beginning took the challenge to interpret with absolute fidelity the wishes of Franca Maculan and the top wine Amarone Piovesole is the result of a balanced and imaginative coexistence of blends of grapes. Together with the varieties Corvina Veronese and Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara, according to the rules, we find the non-aromatic red grapes authorized by the province of Verona such as Croatina, Teroldego, Merlot and Oseleta. The staff is composed of competent technicians working together as a team: agronomist, oenologist, winemaker and vineyard managers. They follow the production process leaving nature to develop at best its course.
The agronomic choices aim to value the specificities of the different terroirs in each terrace (soil, altitude, exposure) and the different grapes varieties to produce wines rich, with complex personality.
